Product Description

The Human PTX3/Pentraxin 3 ELISA Kit PicoKine® is designed for quantitative measurement of human Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) in biological samples. This immunoassay supports the analysis of PTX3 concentrations in cell culture supernatants, serum, EDTA plasma and saliva.

With a reported sensitivity of 10 pg/mL, the kit provides a sensitive approach for investigating PTX3 expression and its involvement in innate immune responses, inflammation and host defense mechanisms.

The 96-well format with removable strips offers flexibility for laboratory workflows and sample analysis. PicoKine® kits are designed to provide precise quantification, high sensitivity and reproducible assay performance.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Quantitative detection of human PTX3/Pentraxin 3.
  • Reported sensitivity of 10 pg/mL.
  • Suitable for serum, EDTA plasma, saliva and cell culture supernatants.
  • 96-well plate format with removable strips.
  • Designed for sensitive and reproducible protein quantification.
  • Useful for research into innate immunity and inflammatory responses.

Background: What Is PTX3?

Pentraxin 3 (PTX3), also known as long pentraxin 3, is a member of the pentraxin superfamily of proteins. Pentraxins are characterized by a cyclic multimeric structure and participate in innate immune recognition and inflammatory processes.

Unlike short pentraxins such as C-reactive protein (CRP), PTX3 is produced locally by several cell types, including immune and vascular cells, in response to inflammatory signals and microbial stimuli. The human PTX3 gene is located on chromosome 3q25.32 and encodes a 381-amino-acid protein.

PTX3 contributes to innate immunity by recognizing selected microbial structures and interacting with components of the complement system. It can activate the classical complement pathway and facilitate pathogen recognition by macrophages and dendritic cells.

PTX3 has also been investigated in host defense against fungal and viral infections, including Aspergillus and cytomegalovirus (CMV). Its biological functions make it an important research target in studies of inflammation, immune regulation and infectious disease.

Research Applications

  • Innate immunity research: Investigation of PTX3 involvement in pathogen recognition and immune defense.
  • Inflammation studies: Analysis of PTX3 levels in inflammatory biological processes.
  • Infectious disease research: Investigation of PTX3 responses during microbial and viral infections.
  • Complement system studies: Research into interactions between PTX3 and complement components.
  • Biomarker research: Measurement of PTX3 concentrations in biological samples.
